Author Joseph Conrad once said that it was the duty of the artist to do justice to the visible world. In a similar vein, the Lviv-Warsaw school can be understood as founded on the idea that we need a form of rationalism to accurately reflect the actual--or "visible," as Conrad would say--epistemic practices. This means opposing not only overt irrationalism--which openly rejects science and logic--but also all forms of worship of reason, including any unwarranted pretense that a self-proclaimed rationalist position may claim regarding its own epistemic status. The occasion to reflect on and carry on this way of doing philosophy is quite special. The authors gathered in this volume celebrate the life and achievements of Professor Jan Woleński, a tireless advocate of this type of rationalism in philosophy and beyond.
